A 23-year-old man shot and killed his former girlfriend early Friday morning,

then turned himself in to the Road Town Police Station hours later, police said.

Alcedo Tyson, a Joes Hill resident, killed 20-year-old Kwanna Todd-Rhymer after watching her dance with friends at Deuces Night Club in Baughers Bay, Senior Crown Counsel Christilyn Benjamin said Monday.

Mr. Tyson, whose relationship with Ms. Todd-Rhymer ended last year, allegedly approached his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of the CSY Dock at about 4:15 a.m., Ms. Benjamin said in describing the murder charges to Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens.

After running up to Ms. Todd-Rhymer, he allegedly said something to her before shooting her in the neck, the Crown counsel said. As she fell to the ground, Mr. Tyson stood over her and fired a second bullet into her abdomen, Ms. Benjamin said.

“Based on information received, they didn’t have any encounter that night save for one brief conversation,” the prosecutor said.

Mr. Tyson, who did not enter a plea to the indictable charge, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison at Balsam Ghut until May 16.
