The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is now issuing curfew passes to agencies and companies that provide essential services under the Curfew Act 2017, which was passed last week.

Curfew passes previously issued by the National Emergency Operation Centre are no longer valid, police said.

The force will only issue passes to institutions and departments: No personal passes will be provided.

As per Section Three of the Labour Code, which defines “essential services,” passes will be issued only to designated personnel at Peebles Hospital; the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service; the BVI Electricity Corporation; the Water and Sewerage Department; the Department of Waste Management; Her Majesty’s Prison; the BVI Ports Authority; police; and telecommunications, transportation and security firms, according to the Police Information Office.

Trash removal firms will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Offenders are liable on summary conviction to a fine up to $1,000 and a prison term up to three months.

The present curfew hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
