Three were arrested when police stopped a silver Honda Acura Sunday night and seized a loaded firearm, according to the Police Information Office.

The vehicle was stopped around 9:25 p.m. by members of the Criminal Investigations Unit and Tactical Unit of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, because it only had one functioning headlight.

“The driver of the vehicle was informed of the offence and the vehicle and occupants were searched,” a police press release stated. “A nine-millimetre handgun with 14 rounds of ammunition was found on the floor of the vehicle. All three occupants were taken into custody.”

The driver, Merande Potter, 33, Esther Fraser, 31, both of Little Apple Bay, and Shaughn McMaster Jr., 18, of Long Bay, were charged jointly for unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

In April, police led another stop-and-search operation that also led to the seizure of a firearm, according to the release.

“The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has increased both mobile and foot patrols through the territory as the annual Festival season draws closer,” it stated.
