Police officers in the Tactical and Traffic units uncovered a “mature” marijuana plantation in the Hope Hill area late Friday afternoon, according to a press release from the Police Information Office.

More than 170 plants ranging in size from four to 11 feet in height were uprooted and seized.

Inspector Amarro Potter, head of the Tactical Unit, said the plants had reached heights “rarely seen” in the territory, according to the press release.

“We rarely seize cannabis plants this mature — way past the height for harvesting — and these were uncovered before they were able to reach to the streets, which is good for our community,” Mr. Potter said.

No arrests have been made.

The plantation was the eighth discovered this year, when more than 1,000 plants have been seized so far, the press release said.
