Premier Dr. Orlando Smith is scheduled to give the annual budget address Monday morning at House of Assembly.

After the public reading and House meeting, legislators will meet privately as the Standing Finance Committee, where they will consider the details of the 2014 budget.

SFC meetings, which are closed to the public, generally take weeks, and include appearances by permanent secretaries and department heads from throughout the civil service so legislators can ask questions about proposed expenditures.

After the SFC meetings conclude, government releases a report on the committee’s deliberations, but it is typically edited.

Also after the SFC meetings, lawmakers will return to the House to debate the budget publicly and to pass an appropriations act for 2014. In the meantime, the territory is being funded by a $110 million interim appropriations bill.
