The Ministry of Education and Culture has purchased 248 new laptops for the territory’s Information Communication Technology programme, Education and Culture Minister Myron Walwyn announced during the Teachers Summer Institute on Monday at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

The move, he said, will allow the expansion of the ICT initiative, which was piloted in grade five at eight public primary schools during the 2015/2016 school year.

By bringing the total number of ICT laptops up to 350, the purchase will allow the programme to be offered in grade five at all public primary schools in the territory, according to the minister.

Mr. Walwyn also announced other new initiatives, including the introduction of 20 Promethean Boards for grade seven classes at all public secondary schools.

Jost Van Dyke will see some changes as well, as grades seven to nine are discontinued on the island.

“We will be returning those students to the Elmore Stoutt High School as it is agreed that this is the best avenue for them,” Mr. Walwyn said, adding that the decision was made following discussions with the JVD community.
