The senior corporate administrator, who works at Folio Corporate Services, developed such an affinity for cigar bars that he wanted to bring his passion home to the Virgin Islands.

That’s why he partnered with the United States-based Aromas Cigars, Wine and Martini Bar to open Aromas BVI, the territory’s first cigar bar.

The business, which is located on the second floor of Building Four at the Tortola Pier Park, has not yet had its grand opening, but it is already outfitted with all the trappings of an upscale club.

A 14-shelf humidor stocked with cigars sits right next to the entrance, and a mahogany bar runs along the southern end of the room. Bottles of beer, wine, liquor and spirits decorate the area behind the bar, and two 50-inch televisions hang from the ceiling.

For guests who want to smoke outside, a balcony overlooks Road Harbour.

“I think the balcony will be a popular spot,” Mr. Palmer said.
