The Virgin Islands government will help administer an initiative to distribute more than $20.4 million in European Union funds to aid small- and medium-sized businesses across the region over the next three years, officials said Monday.

The funds will benefit 12 jurisdictions in the region that belong to the Overseas Countries and Territories Association, a group that the VI currently chairs.

A steering committee met at a conference room at Maria’s by the Sea Monday morning to discuss how the funds will be used. Attendees included representatives of the 12 jurisdictions that the funds will benefit: the VI, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Montserrat, Anguilla, the Cayman Islands, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Barthelemy, St. Eustatius, Saba, Curacao and St. Maarten.
