Improvements to technology were among the most important accomplishments of Government Information Services in 2013, according to the department’s annual report.

The report stated that GIS set up YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook accounts, touting the fact that government news is now more easily accessible than ever before.

The GIS website was also updated, with Wilbert Chambers from the Conservation and Fisheries Department temporarily added to the staff to fix what was described as “long-standing technical difficulties.”

“The public is now able to access information at their convenience and from anywhere in the world,” the report’s executive summary noted.

Along with improving the department’s dissemination platforms, the GIS information officers were reported to have received a laptop, a digital camera, and a Samsung Galaxy III.

The report added that the equipment was distributed to the officers to allow them to work from the field.

However, several ongoing technical problems were also outlined.
