Last Thursday, members of Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town participated in International Literacy Day by distributing magazines and other periodicals to Peebles Hospital and health clinics around the territory.

The observance, which is held annually on Sept. 8, is designed to focus attention on literacy needs around the world.

“More than 780 million of the world’s adults, nearly two-thirds of whom are women, do not know how to read or write, and between 94 and 115 million children lack access to education,” according to a Rotary press release.

Club President Donna Arter said Rotarians have been collecting magazines for the past four months.
