The government is taking steps to establish services for autistic residents, according to Government Information Services.

This month, officers from the Ministry of Health and Social Development met with officials of the Barbados-based Maria Holder Memorial Trust, a potential funding source for the first phase of an autism programme, according to Government Information Services.

Trust project manager Donna Clarke and trustee Peter Symmons, QC, visited the territory recently to meet with government stakeholders.

Carolyn Stoutt-Igwe, the ministry’s deputy secretary, said the meetings were fruitful. “The Virgin Islands is now required to submit a proposal, which will be presented to the board of the Maria Holder Memorial Trust,” Ms. Stoutt-Igwe said.
