Traffic near the Road Town Roundabout will be disrupted in the coming weeks so that workers can install sewage pipes.

The works began Tuesday and are scheduled to last for five weeks, according to Government Information Services.

On Tuesday night, several sections of road in Road Town — including Waterfront Drive — were blocked off with orange cones and ribbon.

The work will be carried out at nights beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting until 5 a.m., and drivers are asked to be careful and follow traffic signs.

The pipes are being installed as part of phase two of the National Sewerage Project, an effort to upgrade the territory’s sewerage infrastructure. The first phase of the Road Town portion of the project finished in June with the installation of 1,400 feet of pipeline and 14 manholes, according to government.

For part of phase two, a $163,967 contract was signed in March with Biosafe Treatment and Septic Solutions. The phase includes installing two new pumps at the Road Town pump station in addition to new pipes.
