During a Friday appearance in Magistrates’ Court, Monica King admitted to attacking Maya Maynard and throwing a rock that damaged her jeep on Sept. 24, 2012 in Shepherd Hill.

Ms. King pleaded guilty to three charges against her: common assault, throwing a missile and criminal damage.

“Your honour, I apologise for my actions that night,” Ms. King told Magistrate Tamia Richards. “I should have behaved a little bit more proper.”

On Sept. 24, 2012, police received reports of a disturbance outside Ms. King’s Shepherd Hill home, according to the allegations.

Earlier, Ms. Maynard had arrived at the home, and the two women were talking when a man arrived, Senior Crown Counsel Sarah Benjamin told the court.

“As a result of his presence, an argument began, which resulted in the defendant pushing Ms. Maynard,” Ms. Benjamin added.

After a brief struggle, Ms. Maynard ran toward her vehicle, which was parked nearby. Meanwhile, Ms. King picked up a stone and threw it at her, according to the allegations.

“She was able to avoid being hit, but it hit the vehicle instead, causing damage to the right front door,” Ms. Benjamin said.

Ms. King’s sentencing was scheduled for May 31.
