Twenty teachers from different primary schools around the territory will return to the classroom this fall with extra tools under their belt.

The group was the first cohort to earn bachelor’s degrees from a University of the West Indies programme administered through H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

During a July 24 ceremony at HLSCC, seven graduated with a degree in education, six in English literacy and seven in special education.

The two-year, full-time programme is part of the Ministry of Education and Culture’s goal of having all teachers earn at least a bachelor’s degree by 2020, according to Kareem-Nelson Hull, a ministry information officer.
