Last weekend, a five-member team representing the Virgin Islands claimed victory in an archery competition in Nevis.

The two-day competition was hosted by the Nevis Archery Association.

The VI team was comprised of three students from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, one student from the Elmore Stoutt High School and instructor Winette Lawrence. 

The Nevis and VI team competed in four categories, including target shoot distances of 15 metres, 30 metres, Federal-50 metres, and field shoots that involved shooting targets at varying heights through bushy areas on Mount Travers.

Team VI won fou gold medals, three silver medals, two bronze medals and the Nevis Challenge Cup.  Individual awards went to:

Adriel Singh (HLSCC), First place — 30 metres, first place — 15 metres

Jahmaine Liburd (HLSCC), second place — 30 metres, second place – 15 metres

Teandra Donovan (HLSCC), third place — 30 metres

Shaniah Daignauth (ESHS), third place — 15 meters

Winette Lawrence (Instructor), second place— 50 metres, first place — 15 metres, and first place — field shoot

“The past weekend event provided a much needed opportunity to see how the team would perform under pressure now that we preparing for a rating event in Salinas, Puerto Rico next year,” said BVI Archery Association President Patrick Smith. “From this regional competition, we can now see exactly where we are and what we need to work on for our next competition. Certainly, you’ll be hearing about us again as they continue to pull ‘em back and let ‘em fly!”
