The Virgin Islands edged out the USVI as Really Uptown took home

the biggest purse during last weekend’s Diamond Jubilee horse races at the Ellis Thomas Downs.

 

Really Uptown took home $5,000 for L&B Stables with a hard push in the last two furlongs to pull away from the pack. He crossed the finish line in 1:29.1 minutes.The win garnered a standing ovation as the crowd erupted into cheers following the race. The win marks the third victory in a row for Really Uptown.

Tortola’s Good Prospecting took second in the race, the fourth of the day.

Really Uptown’s jockey Eriluis Vaz said he was confident before the race.

“I always knew he was a really fast horse,”  Mr. Vaz said. “He’s a good horse. I’m happy to win here with everyone.”

Tortola’s other two winners on Sunday were Out of Wine who won the third race with a finish of 1:31.3,” and Blood in the Sand who outran three other horses to cross the line at 1:28.2” in the opening race of the day.

St. Thomas’ horses pulled out two victories on Sunday. Dashing Pirate won against the largest field of the day, six horses, in a time of 1:33.2” in the second race. Twisted Dream won the final and longest race of one mile with a time of 1:47.1 minutes.
