“You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why: Santa Claus is coming to town,” the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Jazz Chorale sang at the Sir Olva Georges Plaza on Saturday.

The singers were among dozens of community members who performed at the Lions Club of Tortola’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The event kicks off the holiday season each year, typically setting the stage for Christmas on Main Street, which is scheduled to start tomorrow.

The Lions Club has held the ceremony for 37 years, according to Carvin Malone, Saturday’s emcee. And on Saturday, Marion Scatliffe was recognised for attending for 36 of those years.

After Ms. Scatliffe took the stage and serenaded the audience, she was named an honorary Lions Club member.
