The first Tropical Shootout was held at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex last weekend.

The event featured four Division II college teams from the United States: Warner University, Northwood University, the University of Puerto Rico and the University of the Virgin Islands.

Games were held on Friday and Saturday, but the visiting players arrived earlier in the week to sightsee and conduct mini-basketball camps at various schools around the territory.

“This was more than a tournament,” organiser Steve Parillon said. “It was more than just basketball. It was reaching out to the youths of the community.”

The winner was Warner University, which had two players from this territory: Ray Victor and Halstead Chiverton.
