The Tortola Sports Club along with Island Roots Café will host a junior tennis tournament for top players from the TSC’s High Performance Programme.

The tournament will take place at the TSC on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The format will be a three-tiered round robin with four players in each tier. Each player will play three matches with the top-two players in each tier playing for their group championship.

The players include Adrian Baijnauth, Jahmal Bertie, Justine Bryson, Malia Bryson, Sam Childs, Jasper Forte, Leo Forte, Dmoni Green, Tullulah Kincaid, Paul Oliver, Luca Reich, and Jeron Smith.

“With the growing interest for tennis on Tortola, one of TSC’s goals is to organise ongoing competitions for players of all ages,”?said  TSC Tennis Pro Amine Elouazzani. “For juniors in the TSC’s High Performance Program, we have decided to start competitive events that will challenge what players are learning during their training.”

Currently, there are 12 juniors, ages 10 to 15 years old in the High Performance Programme.

Organisers hope that tournaments like the Island Roots Café Invitational help prepare them for international competitions.

“They have to learn how to compete on a local level first, and the Island Roots Café Invitational is a perfect initiative to motivate these players to push each other to get better,” Mr. Elouazzani said.

The tournament will also be the start of the TSC Junior Tennis Ladder, which will provide additional matches and a ranking system for the juniors at the TSC.

Starting in 2014, the TSC will continue a series of competitive tournaments along with several fun competitions open to all children in the Virgin Islands between the ages of 8 and 12 years old, according to Mr. Elouazzani.

“Island Roots Café is very happy to be part of this tournament and get juniors and parents in the BVI excited about the sport,” said Tina Wong, owner of Island Roots Café.
