Governor John Duncan on Nov. 9 ordered two convicts to be deported from the territory in connection to separate crimes.

United Kingdom resident Sebastian Gray, who pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in July, was visiting his parents’ residence in Lambert Estate when he allegedly hit his father over the head with a blender and then choked him with the appliance’s cord on July 13.

The 19-year-old told the court that he regretted his actions, and said he had snapped while confronting his father about an incident that occurred during his childhood.

The virtual complainant was treated at Peebles Hospital for blunt trauma, but has since been released.

The defendant was sentenced to six months in prison for the offence, and was ordered to attend counselling.

According to the deportation order, Mr. Gray was required to leave the territory within seven days of being served.

Accountant

The other deportee was Philippines native Rommel Sofia, who pleaded guilty to theft, false accounting, and concealing and transferring the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Mr. Sofia allegedly stole $24,975.37 from his employer, Island Services BVI Limited, in 2015.

The Crown claimed that Mr. Sofia, an accountant, stole from the company by falsifying documents, such as balance sheets and receipt books, and was only depositing 45 percent of the daily cash receipts that were recorded by cashiers.

During an interview with police, Mr. Sofia allegedly explained that he had stolen the money to support jewellery business and commercial farm plots in the Philippines.

According to the deportation order, Mr. Sofia was required to leave the territory within seven days of being served.
