Alec Anderson of the Virgin Islands continues his collegiate  sailing career with another successful season.

The Roger Williams University junior was named sailor of the week on several occasions and helped his team cap off a winning season.

The university finished with a successful fall regular season with a win at the Atlantic Coast Championship, the largest regatta of the fall.

Some of the season’s highlights included a second place finish at the ICSA Match Race National Championship in California. Despite the conditions, the RWU Hawks swept its quarterfinal match against the University of Michigan. After losing the first race in the semi finals, the Hawks went on to win the next two races and earned a spot in the finals. Despite winning the first race of the finals, the Hawks lost the next two races to the US Naval Academy and finished second overall.

On Nov. 22,  Mr. Anderson and his crew, freshmen Annie Schmidt and Dylan Vogel, were named New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association Sailors of the Week for their performance at the 2011 ICSA Match Race National Championship.

It was Mr. Anderson’s third sailor of the week honour for this season.  His crew Sophie Belacossa were named NEISA Coed sailors of the week on Nov. 12.

The university was ranked first in the nation among all collegiate sailing teams, according to the national rankings composed by Sailing World.

The Hawks almost swept all the first-place votes, receiving 18 of the 19 first-place votes and tallying 378 points; 42 more than second-ranked Dartmouth College. Yale University ranked third, which received the other first-place vote.
