Gun Creek resident John Emmanuel, 66, is still missing, with volunteers and police asking members of the public on Virgin Gorda and Tortola to keep a look out.

Mr. Emmanuel, who was reported missing Friday, is known to be in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

He was seen near his home on May 20 by family members, but searchers widened their efforts to Tortola over the weekend after learning that he may have been in Tortola that day as well, said Vincent Wheatley, who has helped with the search efforts.

Friday saw only small numbers of volunteers, but by Monday about 50 people were assisting, Mr. Wheatley said.

“The family is really distraught,” he said.

Over the weekend, police and volunteer searchers canvassed the area around Mr. Emmanuel’s home, including Nail Bay and South Sound, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Also over the weekend, a search dog and a helicopter were used to try to find Mr. Emmanuel, she said.

As time passes, the search becomes more critical, Mr. Wheatley said.

“Especially if he’s outdoors, he needs food and water, and it’s been so hot,” Mr. Wheatley said.

Volunteer searchers will re-group and continue the search under police guidance Wednesday, he added.

Police are following all leads, Ms. Drayton said Tuesday afternoon, urging anyone who may have seen Mr. Emmanuel within the last few days to contact the police at 311.
