Several Virgin Islands performers shared the stage with their international counterparts this weekend during the BVI Music Festival at Cane Garden Bay.

The three-day event kicked off with a “Virgin Islands All-Star Showcase,” which featured VI artists singing soca, R&B, hip-hop and reggae, among other genres. After a surprise appearance by Iyaz, St. Vincent’s Fireman Hooper also played, as did El A Kru from Antigua and Barbuda.

On Saturday, the event again kicked off with VI performers, including Quito and the Edge and Ritical. Mada Nile from the United States VI followed, making way for headliners Lady Saw and Third World.

Ouida and Reema performed on Sunday, opening for Melanie Amaro, another Virgin Islander, and United Kingdom artist Estelle.

Rhodni Skelton, public relations officer for the BVI Music Festival Committee, tagged the weekend a success.

“From our point of view, the entire event was successful, considering the financial situation we had and the time we had to market the show,” Mr. Skelton said.
