The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour intends to create five new land and marine protected areas in the territory, including areas of Anegada, The Baths and Jost Van Dyke.

Detailed proposals for the protected areas weren’t available as of the Beacon’s print deadline yesterday afternoon, but they were expected to be available for public viewing at the MNRL and other locations today.

The five areas were listed in the May 29 Gazette:

• Western Salt Ponds/North Coast of Anegada Protected Area;

• Pomato and Rufflin Points Protected Area, also in Anegada;

• Anegada Horseshoe Reef, Anegada Channel Fisheries Protected Area and Eastern Wetlands Protected Area;

• The Greater Baths and Taylor’s Bay Protected Area in Virgin Gorda; and

• Northern Cays and Eastern Jost Van Dyke Protected Areas.
