Kemoya Charles likes being a Brownie because they go on adventures.

“I love Brownies,” she said. “And I learn how to make stuff.”

Kemoya, 8, is not the only young Virgin Islands resident who has thought that way. The Brownies’ overarching female youth organisation, the Girl Guides, is celebrating its 80th anniversary in the territory this year.

In honour of that celebration, a Girl Guides exhibit has been set up at the 1780 Lower Estate Sugar Works Museum to commemorate decades past and present.

On Friday, the Guides hosted an opening ceremony for the exhibit, with speeches from the organisation’s president and commissioner.
