The West End Police Station is now only open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., reducing what was once a 24-hour-per-day operation, according to Police Information Officer Diane Drayton.

Ms. Drayton explained that structural issues, including a leaky roof, were identified when the Public Works Commission conducted an inspection at the request of Police Commissioner David Morris.

“Since the environmental conditions are unhealthy for police officers to reside on the premises and there is presently no funding available for repairs, the [Royal Virgin Islands Police Force] made the decision in April to permanently close the living quarters at that station,” Ms. Drayton said.

She added that due to the condition of the station as a whole, a further decision was made to close the police station at night.

She said officers operating out of the Cane Garden Bay Police Station will patrol the West End area.
