It has been a year since the death of Felix Colon-Beltre, who was shot and killed during an apparent robbery gone wrong on upper Main Street.

Police are still seeking information about who’s responsible, according to a Sunday press release from the Police Information Office.

A reward of up to $100,000 is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murder, the release states.

The shooting took place shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 26, 2011, when Mr. Colon-Beltre, better known as “Freddy,” left his barbershop to get his vehicle, which was parked near the corner of Main and Flemming streets. His girlfriend and a male friend stayed behind, standing outside of the barbershop.

“A lone gunman approached both men and demanded money,” according to the police press release. “The gunman then shot the male friend in the leg, shot Colon-Beltre and then ran off toward Flemming Street.”

Mr. Colon-Beltre was taken to Peebles Hospital but died of the injuries. He was 34 at the time of his death.

The reward money is offered as incentive for anyone with information to come forward, the release states.

Smaller rewards will be paid for information that assists the police in advancing the investigation. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence, police said.

According to the press release, the Witness Protection Scheme introduced under the Justice Protection Act of 2011 is now in place to provide protection to those who come forward.
