The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force concluded its second training course in advanced investigation on June 15, according to a press release from the Police Information Office.

The three-week course, designed for detectives, was intended to expose officers to the best practices in progressing investigations from an initial report to completion, the release said.

During the closing ceremony on Friday, Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Alwyn James commended the class of 13 detectives, who all successfully passed the exit exam, with nine receiving distinctions.

“We are fortunate to be able to provide, on island, a level of training in investigations equal to that of law enforcement institutions overseas,” he said, according to the press release. “We now expect an improved quality of work and service to the public.”

Acting Superintendent of Crime Alexis Charles, who also gave remarks, thanked the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College for partnering with the RVIPF in the training initiative.
