Among Elmore Stoutt High School’s 186 graduates on Thursday, Eugene Maduro wasn’t hard to spot. He held a red vuvuzela horn, which he blew several times during his graduation ceremony at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex.

“It is a great feeling,” Mr. Maduro said shortly after the graduates walked out of the hall. “It is a feeling I’ve never had before.”

With this phase of his life over, he hopes to get a job fixing boats or working with computers, he said.

After a brief interview, he continued blowing his vuvuzela, making his way to meet his family and friends.

Mr. Maduro’s class, which produced seven of the territory’s top 10 graduates, included 66 honour students.

During the ceremony, attendees listened to advice about life after high school from speakers including government Communications Director Arliene Penn, who delivered the keynote address.
