Seventeen days before the General Elections, government handed out 25 no-bid contracts worth a total of about $362,000 for 4,800 feet of roadwork on Anegada, according to Government Information Services.

The contracts, which are valued at about $14,500 each, were given to Anegadians on May 22 to carry out work from the Saltheap Point at the Beach Cottages to Cow Wreck Beach Bar & Grill.

The initiative is to be supervised by five project managers from Anegada, who will work in partnership with the Public Works Department to oversee the project, according to the Ministry of Communications and Works.

Anthony McMaster, MCW permanent secretary, met with contractors and project managers on the sister island to discuss and sign the contracts.

“Each contractor will be given 240 feet of road and will be responsible for executing works under the contract,” Mr. McMaster said in a GIS press release. “The Public Works Department will be providing concrete and the sub-base material to all contractors for road works.”

About $1.8 million has been budgeted to construct some two miles of new concrete road on the sister island over the next year, according to the ministry.
