The Ministry of Communications and Works inked a $332,485 contract Thursday to replace a retaining wall and restore a strip of road in Thomas Land that was damaged in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Otto in 2010.

During a brief ceremony at the Premier’s Office, CW Minister Mark Vanterpool and representatives of Autland Heavy Equipment Company Ltd. signed several copies of the contract.

Work is scheduled to begin shortly to replace nearly 60 feet of a retaining wall in Thomas Land, which is located close to Beef Island.

The wall failed when a 20-foot section of slope collapsed during the storm, which brought nearly 25 inches of rain over a three-day period.

The project, one of 16 related works being carried out across the territory, is being funded by a $15.7 million loan from the Caribbean Development Bank. All of the CDB-funded rehabilitation projects are expected to be complete by the end of 2015, Mr. Vanterpool said.
