Calvin Rabsatt, 66, pleaded guilty in High Court on Thursday to one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault.

Prosecutors said the victim, a 15-year-old relative of his wife, is now pregnant, though paternity has not been determined.

The crimes were reported after the girl received medical attention after showing early signs of pregnancy, and Mr. Rabsatt confessed to police, Crown Counsel Leslie-Ann Faulkner told the court during sentencing proceedings.

The girl, who is now “in foster care,” has shown signs of post-traumatic stress disorder and will benefit from long-term counselling, said Dr. Virginia Rubaine, a clinical psychologist who has been providing therapy.

Attorney Stephen Daniels, who represents Mr. Rabsatt, urged Justice Indra Hariprashad-Charles not to send him to Her Majesty’s Prison in light of his poor health.
