After being closed for a week, the Auguste George Airport on Anegada is back open, officials said.

The closure of the aerodrome on April 17 came as a result of a suspension of the airport’s operating certificate, according to a press release from the BVI Airports Authority. It was reopened on April 24, and currently offers domestic flights only.

The suspension of service was largely due to the airport’s fire and rescue services, according to Deputy Managing Director Diana Maduro.

“Everything is back to normal,” Ms. Maduro said yesterday, but she declined to provide further details on the closure.

“I can’t speak anymore on that,” she said, and referred to a BVIAA press release that was issued on April 24.

“The Auguste George Airport, Anegada, is now operating as a non-certificated aerodrome with a category two rescue and fire fighting service,” the release states. “Persons wishing to travel to Anegada by air are now encouraged to contact their airline representative to confirm their reservations.”
