Eileene Parsons, a former legislator and educator, will be honoured on Thursday when the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is renamed in her honour.

The institution’s first employee, Ms. Parsons served as HLSCC’s first registrar/bursar and has been member of the board of governors for much of the life of the college, according to a press release from HLSCC.

“She is regarded throughout the community as someone who has made significant contributions to culture and performing arts, and is the founder of the BVI Heritage Dancers and the BVI Community Singers,” the press release said.

Ms. Parsons has worked here and in the United States Virgin Islands. “She assisted many in obtaining tertiary level education at HLSCC long before the government-funded tuition assistance programme was introduced,” according to the press release.

The Thursday ceremony is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
