The trial of Doyle Guishard began on Feb. 11 with the testimony of Prince Stoutt Jr., whose Ballast Bay home was allegedly burgled in April 2013.

Mr. Stoutt Jr., who owns Stoutt Lookout Bar on Windy Hill, said he spent the night of April 11, 2013, with his girlfriend in Cane Garden Bay.

When he came home early the next morning, his apartment was ransacked, he testified.

The complainant said he noticed someone had cut through the screen window leading into the living area of his residence. A carpenter’s hammer that didn’t belong to him was left on his bed with clothes and other items strewn about his bedroom, he said.

Mr. Stoutt called the police, who took fingerprints and obtained a statement from him.

Mr. Guishard, who is representing himself in the matter, had the chance to cross-examine the complainant, but he declined to ask any questions.

“Boy Jesus, I can’t believe this,” Mr. Stoutt said while looking at Mr. Guishard, telling the court that the defendant is his good friend.

Nothing in Mr. Stoutt’s statement directly implicated the defendant in the burglary, but investigating police officers have yet to testify.

The trial is scheduled to continue on April 20.
