Following a successful launch on Scrub Island last year, organisers of the BVI Exquisite Boat Show are planning to expand the event and move it to Village Cay, they said Tuesday.

Activities will start on May 22 with a motorcade of boats beginning at the Port Purcell roundabout, organisers said during a Tuesday press conference at CCT Global Communications’ flagship store.

The procession will head to Prospect Reef and then to Village Cay, where this year’s activities will be based for the next three days, said Meslyn Allan and Anthony George, founders of the show.

“Last year, we were able to plan and execute a successful inaugural event,” Ms. Allan said of the one-day show at Scrub Island. “Having a first event is never easy, but we are happy to say that for the first event, we were pleased with the outcome.”

Last year’s show, which drew 13 competing boats, cost “between $30,000 and $50,000,” the organiser said.

“We are very conscious of our spending to make sure we pull off the event this year,” Ms. Allan added.

Last year, about 300 people attended, and the organisers said they hope that number is surpassed this year.
