The body of a United States citizen was found in his West End home yesterday, according to acting Police Information Officer Carl Mason.

Gary Roy, 55, who worked as the Peg Leg’s Restaurant manager in Nanny Cay, was pronounced dead by Dr. Paula Trotman after police responded to his home on Spy Glass Hill, Mr. Mason said.

Police were called by someone who smelled a foul odour from Mr. Roy’s home, he said, adding that the caller was a co-worker who went to his house after the deceased didn’t show up to work.

The information officer said officers forced their way into the home and found the man motionless on the living room floor.

“He had apparently been dead for some time,” he said.

Mr. Mason added that Mr. Roy’s family in the US has been contacted.

No foul play is suspected, he said.

On Thursday, Nanny Cay’s Facebook page released a tribute to Mr. Roy.

“He was unflappable,” said Nanny Cay General Manager Miles Sutherland-Pilch. “The crazier it got in the restaurant, the calmer he became. He thrived on the bedlam of running a restaurant. He was a natural.”

The tribute noted that Mr. Roy lived in the Virgin Islands for more than 25 years, working at restaurants including Pusser’s Landing, the Jolly Roger, Myett’s Garden and Grill, and Foxy’s Taboo.

The Facebook page said it will announce details for a memorial service as soon as they are made available.
