“Rain, rain, go away; come again another day,” says the popular nursery rhyme.

That just might be the song on many residents’ minds this Friday. But the rain is likely to continue into the weekend before clearing up on Sunday or Monday, according to forecasters.

On Friday afternoon, DDM upgraded a flash flood watch to a warning, meaning that flooding is imminent or already under way. The warning remains in effect until 8 p.m.

“A flash flood is a sudden, violent flood after heavy rain,” DDM stated.

During the warning, rainfall may intensify, with topography, soil conditions and ground cover contributing to flooding conditions, according to the agency.
“The warnings for mariners and sea bathers remain in effect as seas are locally rough with waves of seven to eight feet,” DDM added.

The weather is a result of a tropical disturbance that is centred north of the territory and growing as it moves north toward the Bahamas, forecasters said.
