A 15-year-old boy from West End died this morning following a scooter accident on the Beef Island Public Road, police said. Tré Erickson suffered “critical injuries” following a crash involving a dirt bike and two scooters, according to a police press release.

Mr. Erickson was rushed to Peebles Hospital shortly after midnight Sunday and died hours later at a hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sergeant Selwyn Rock said.

Another rider received abrasions on both legs, while the status of a third rider remains unknown, a police press release stated.

Mr. Erickson was allegedly travelling towards Trellis Bay when he collided with the two other riders coming from the opposite direction. The crash occurred across from the tollbooth at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, according to the press release.

The release added that investigations indicated that a person removed a dirt bike involved in the accident before police arrived. Investigators are still trying to identify the rider and dirt bike involved.
