Internet forum

Government Information Services invited interested people to register for the 13th Caribbean Internet Governance Forum scheduled to take place in Road Town from Aug. 21-23.

“The Caribbean Internet Governance Forum is a multi-stakeholder grouping initially convened by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union and the CARICOM Secretariat in 2005 to bring together Caribbean views on the issues being addressed at the World Summit on Information Society,” the CTU website stated. Internet governance refers to the cooperation between governments, private sector stakeholders and civil society to develop roles, principles, norms, rules, programmes and decision-making procedures that shape the internet’s evolution and use, according to the CTU. This year’s conference — themed “Building Caribbean Capacity in Internet Governance” — will feature a technical college as well as hosting open discussions on current issues like net neutrality, privacy and security. Last year’s conference was held in Belize. The forum is open to government policymakers, regulators, public and private sector organisations, internet service providers, academic institutions and others, the GIS press release stated. Anyone who is interested can register at www.ctu.int or by calling the Ministry of Communications and Works at 468-2183.
