BVIEC

The BVI Electricity Corporation increased its revenue from electricity sales to $55.8 million in 2010, a 15.29 percent increase from the prior year, according to the company. At the same time, the government-owned electricity producer’s expenses rose from nearly $46 million in 2009 to $54 million in 2010. The company’s biggest expense was its $30.4 million fuel bill, according to the 2010 BVIEC annual report tabled recently in the House of Assembly. The report also states that 2010 saw the BVIEC undertake a series of major overhauls to its generator sets and six turbochargers used in power generation.

Customs duties

Government took in $32.2 million in customs duties in 2011, a 2.5 percent increase over the previous year, according to the department’s 2011 annual report. In total, it cost an estimated $4.7 million to run the department in 2011, allowing the rest to flow into central government’s revenues. In addition to the revenues from duties, the department saw a 5.5 percent increase in cruising permits issued compared to the prior year. In 2011, the department took in more than $1.35 million from the sale of cruising permits, according to the report.

HLSCC workshop

H. Lavity Stoutt Community College will host a six-month set of business communication workshops beginning in January, the organisation announced.
