Digital cable

BVI Cable TV has launched its digital cable network and is asking customers to turn in their analog cable boxes for replacements that receive the new digital signal.

The digital network, which became available on Dec. 24, will require customers to use the new boxes, the company announced in a Dec. 29 press release.

During the transition to the digital system, cable customers with analog boxes will still be able to watch television — but only until March 1, when the analog service will be discontinued, according to the company.

The digital service will bring some 75 new channels, better sound and picture quality, and the option of pay-per-view channels, according to BVI Cable TV.

Customers should visit the company’s Fish Lock Road offices Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in order to swap their cable boxes, the release stated.

FSC warning

Benson Union Limited, a Virgin Islands-registered company that purports to offer investment advice, isn’t licensed to carry out investment business in the territory, the Financial Services Commission announced. In a Dec. 31 press release, the regulator warned the public to exercise “extreme caution” when doing business with the company, which is also known as Benson Union. FSC officials also announced that a United Kingdom-issued order restricting VI-registered companies from doing business with firms in Burma has been lifted in light of “positive political developments” in the country. Burma has undertaken a series of democratic reforms in recent years.
