Nearly 400 Virgin Islanders registered with the Labour Department in 2013 as part of their job search, and the agency was able to find work for 80 of them, officials said. According to the 2015 Standing Finance Committee Report, acting Labour Commissioner Janice Rymer said that of about 320 who weren’t placed many found employment on their own or changed their phone numbers and did not follow up with the department. However, she noted that many employers are “looking for particular skills and were not willing to provide training,” according to the report.
