The BVI Red Cross screened a record number of men during its annual health screening this year: 1,011.

The last stop for the event was the Catholic Community Centre on Virgin Gorda Saturday, where volunteers and men seeking to be screened for prostate cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure “were there in numbers,” said Helen Frett, the Red Cross director.

In Tortola, three volunteer doctors screened 758 men over the course of two days. In VG they screened 253 men.

Edris O’Neal, the organisation’s former director, had been hoping to pass the 1,000 mark this year, she said during the Tortola screening.
