Last Wednesday, the BVI Football Association’s BDO Primary School League came to a close with all three age group finals ending in a penalty shoot out.

In the Under-7 Division, Robinson O’Neal and Bregado Flax were unable to score during regulation, before the winner was determined in a shoot out.

In the end, Bregado Flax was crowned the champions.

Jaden Quashie won the Golden Boot award with 22 goals throughout the season, while Kyle Alexander took the Golden Glove award and Drekaily Findlay was named MVP.

“Both teams had a game plan and before the penalties, they both did their job,” said Coach Thomas Albert. “Once you get to a shoot out situation, it can go either way on the day and I spoke to them about the possibility yesterday and told them just to try their best and not to worry about who would win or lose as they are all worthy champions.”

In the Under-9 Division, it was an all Cedar School clash as the Green Team faced the White Team.

Alex Fountain opened the scoring in the ninth minute, but Azarni Callwood tied the game four minutes later and the Green Team regained the lead in the 23rd minute with goal from Ryan Lettsome. However, the lead lasted just six minutes after Gethin Jones scored to tie the match, 2-2. The game was then decided in a penalty shoot out.

Ultimately, Cedar Green would win the shoot out, 4-3, and take the championship.

Azarni Callwood received the Golden Boot award, while Jaden Abrams grabbed the Golden Glove award and Ryan Lettsome was named MVP.

“Congratulations to both teams, who played wonderfully throughout the season to reach the final,” said Cedar International School’s Director of Football Development John Riley. “In my eyes, it finished 2-2, with penalty kicks not really coming into it. Well done to the winners, it was an exceptional game with both teams trying to play football and listening to their coaches.”

In the Under-13 Division, Althea Scatliffe and Cedar finished in a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation.

But Cedar won the shoot out to take the championship.

Lawton Green was named MVP, while Bradford Green was awarded the Golden Glove and Luca Reich took the Golden Boot award.

BVIFA President and BDO representative Andy Bickerton made the presentations during the award ceremony.
