Visitors will arrive on Anegada and receive a treasure map. They’ll rent a safari bus or taxi and travel around the 15-square-mile island in search of one of its most popular offerings at participating bars and restaurants: spiny lobster.

At least that’s the idea.

BVI Tourist Board members travelled to Anegada last week to announce the concept and get community feedback, which was largely favourable. Though a date hasn’t been set for an annual Anegada Lobster Festival, it is tentatively planned for late November in hopes of luring United States tourists on holiday for Thanksgiving week.

“The idea behind the lobster festival is to use the culinary that we have as an added tourism product,” said BVITB Film Commissioner and Events Marketing Manager Rhodni Skelton. “Culinary is becoming one of the fastest growing sectors in tourism.”

Members of the BVITB, including Director Sharon Flax-Mars, made the trip to Anegada on May 29 to get feedback and drum up support for the event.
