New Zealand native Stephen Fossi appeared at the High Court on Monday to face two counts of manslaughter stemming from a fatal boat crash that left Kari Anne Way, of Michigan, and Howard Anderson, of Jamaica, dead.

Mr. Fossi, a United States resident, is accused of crashing the 33-foot vessel Inevitable into the rocks near Cow Mouth on Virgin Gorda on Jan. 24, 2015.

The defendant, who is out on $200,000 bail, is represented by defence attorneys Patrick Thompson and Rebecca Trowler, QC.

Prosecutors include Senior Crown Counsel Valston Graham, Senior Crown Counsel Leslie-Ann Faulkner, and Crown Counsel O’Neil Simpson.

High Court Justice Nicola Byer instructed the eight-member jury to avoid news sites or blogs while the case is ongoing.

The trial is expected to begin Tuesday.
