Calling it a step toward a safer Virgin Islands and “a more robust infrastructure,” officials launched the Caribbean Development Bank loan-funded infrastructure rehabilitation project July 30.

“This project, which is a result of the devastating events of tropical storm Otto, is not merely being used to fix some of the damages that the event caused, but it is a springboard to ensure higher standards in building our roads, bridges and retaining walls to ensure the long-term stability of our infrastructure,” Premier Dr. Orlando Smith said at the ceremony to mark the project launch at Treasure Isle Hotel.

Critical areas will be the focus of the loan projects, said Dr. Drexel Glasgow, the Ministry of Communications and Works’ project coordinator. He added that residents can expect to see work start first on priority areas including Ballast Bay, Windy Hill, the Cane Garden Bay seawall, Jost Van Dyke’s East End road, and Lee Road in Virgin Gorda.
