Singing “we need Jesus more than ever,” more than 50 Christians from several denominations stood at sunset at the Festival Village Grounds Thursday ready to pray for the community.

The prayer service, held as part of the Interdenominational Day of Prayer, drew participants wearing white t-shirts emblazoned with the day’s logo. They sang and prayed and listened to a sermon delivered by pastor Calvin Mills.

He led them in prayers for the community focusing on leadership, crime and youth issues. “It is time that we become aware of the spiritual welfare of our souls,” Mr. Mills said, adding that community needs to become closer to God and ask him to intercede in the issues going on in the territory.

The day was observed with the theme “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.”
