Troy Prince, a 30-year-old tyre repairman, appeared in Magistrates’ Court Friday, charged with indecently assaulting a 9-year-old girl in his home in The Valley, Virgin Gorda.

Mr. Prince, who is originally from St. Vincent, is charged with five counts of indecent assault. He is accused of touching the girl’s vagina with his hand and, on one occasion, with his penis, Senior Crown Counsel Christilyn Benjamin said in court.

On May 1, Ms. Benjamin said, the girl’s grandmother was educating her about sex, when the girl said that Mr. Prince had touched her inappropriately. The grandmother notified police, who arrested Mr. Prince on May 4, the prosecutor said. The assaults allegedly took place in 2010 and 2011.

Mr. Prince denied the allegations when questioned by police, Ms. Benjamin said. Speaking in court, his defence lawyer, Richard Rowe, emphasised the difficulty of disproving such charges.
